Beun Family Connections

Beun Family Connections

"Connections" is an opportunity to reminisce, remember, and celebrate our stories as children of Hubert and Johanna Beun. It is also a way for the Beun siblings to connect and share the memories of our childhoods with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. The Invitation (first post) was my original thought for a methodology of collecting and publishing our stories. However, that seems clunky, cumbersome, and challenging. Therefore, I'll simply start a post with a memory or topic and entrust my siblings to add their memories and insights. This becomes an attempt to translate our "oral histories" into a written dialogue as siblings.

  • Reviving Sibling Memories: A New Year’s Resolution

Nearly a year ago, I attempted to begin a collection of memories to connect my siblings by remembering our growing-up years. However, the challenges of health, especially a total knee replacement, limited my creative juices and stifled my motivations. One of my 2026 New Year’s resolutions is to try again. The format may be different…

  • Christmas and New Year’s Day Foods

Prompt: Name and describe several of your favorite foods during Christmas and New Year’s as a child.  As we remember our favorite foods of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays our initial responses indicate that Oleibollen was our favorite. It’s probable that this was what we enjoyed on New Year’s Eve and/ or New Year’s…

As the new year begins, I’ve decided to share it with you and invite you to participate in a project called “Connections.” In short, the project is an attempt to share and collaborate on memories from each of our childhoods,…
